Mhairi Walker
Owner

Having spent 10 years as a Human rights lawyer, I had begun to look for an alternative to the long hours and high pressured environment.  My three children had attended the old Croft Corner and I learnt that Croft Corner was going to close due to the retirement of the old owners, I decided to take on and allow Croft Corner to enter a new part of its history.

I had been inspired by a visit to a Forest School Nursery and knew that this is where the nursery’s future lay.  I have loved every minute of my time since becoming the owner . I have also loved studying again and I am now an Early Years Teacher and qualified Forest School Leader.

When I am not at Croft Corner, I love nothing more to be outdoors with my family.

I enjoy making a difference to children's experiences and contributing towards their development. I love watching them grow and develop.

Deputy Manager - Baby Room

I have worked at Croft Corner since 1999. During this time I have been lucky enough to work with families who have chosen the setting for all of their children, forging relationships that span a number of years.

I enjoy developing all children as individuals – getting to know their interests /likes/dislikes and using this information to plan activities they will enjoy- as a mother of two boys,  I realise the importance of children being interested and engaged in their learning opportunities.

My favourite season is the summer when its hot we can get to spend more time outdoors and the days are longer!

My favourite forest animal is a bat because instead of relying on their sight, bats have excellent senses, smell and hearing. They sense everything around them through echolocation.

From a very young age I always knew I wanted to work with children. When I left school in 2010 and competed my NVQ through an apprenticeship at another nursery. I started working at Croft Corner in November 2014 and I am based in the baby room. I currently go to Sheffield Hallam one afternoon a week where I am working towards my foundation degree.

I enjoy working in the baby room as you get to see the children develop and progress rapidly. I love being a part of their journey and watching them grow as they move up through the nursery - It's always nice when they come back and say 'hello' over the fence in the garden when they are in the hall!

My favourite woodland animal is an owl as they are very wise. Christmas is my favourite time of year, so winter is my favourite season. I love spending time with my family and getting warm and cosy!
